The Full Montes Weekend
We welcomed Edouardo Stark Export Sales Director of Montes S.A. to The Old School House for the weekend of May 2nd & 3rd for a series of tastings and a dinner at the Wedgwood Tearoom.
The 'Full Montes' Weekend as it was billed, kicked off with a tasting of the full Montes range of Chilean wines at the Old School House on the Friday evening from 7pm to around 10pm.
In his introduction of Edouardo, OSW's Managing Director, Andrew Wilson mentioned how Edouardo had allegedly once 'dreamed of a mystical place called Tittensor, where the there were fine wines a-plenty! and so how he had laboured night and day to get here to show us how worthy his wines were of inclusion in the Old School range'.
But included in the Old School range they certainly now are, with both the new Alpha varietals being added to the range (Pinot Noir & Syrah) and also the new Late Harvest Gewurztraminer, where samples had been flown in specially from Chile for the tasting.
The Montes Dinner took place in the Wedgwood Tearoom, where resident Chef Dave Rose excelled himself with the following menu:
Canapes with Montes Leyda Valley Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc.
Pan Fried Whole Trout with brown butter braised green beans, capers and salt roasted almonds: accompanied by Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2005.
Noisettes of Lamb
Served with carrot, swede & pomme de terre purees and a mint jelly: accompanied by Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon 2005.
With toasted Brioche fingers
: accompanied by Montes Alpha, Pinot Noir Leyda Valley, 2006
Cointreau Baked oranges
Filled with an orange crème brulee
: with Montes Late Harvest, Gewurztraminer
Curico Valley, 2006
Edouardo made a great many friends on the evening, not only due to his colloquial compliments to the ladies, but also thanks to his 'Good Luck' wishes to Stoke City on the eve of their final match of the season, which as history will record, saw them elevated to the Premiership.
A great evening was had by all!
