Champagne & Caviar
Date of tasting: 19/06/2008
Location: Old School House, Tittensor
As predicted the Old School House was 'bursting at the seams' with revelers at our Champagne, Sparkling Wines & Caviar evening.
We estimate that around 65 crammed in at some point, but at least the weather was kind and allowed us spill out into the terrace (aka yard) and enjoy the few rays of sunshine.
The 'race-card' was a full and interesting one as follows:
1/ Lindemans, ‘Bin 30’ Sparkling Rosé
2/ Domaine Ste. Michelle Cuvee Brut (Washington State)
3/ Domaine Ste. Michelle Blanc des Noirs (Washington State)
4/ Gruet Brut N.V
5/ Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs, Grand Cru
6/ Drappier N.V Carte Blanche
7/ Drappier N.V Carte D’or
8/ Gosset Brut Excellence N.V
9/ Gosset Grande Reserve N.V
10/ Gosset Grande Rose N.V
11/ Juvee Y Camps, Semi Seco Cava
It was hard to choose a favourite amongst such an impressive line up.
However, both the Washington State wines were thought to be 'interesting' and good value.
Our 'house' Champagne Gruet as ever proved the most popular particularly in respect of instant sales.
Whereas the Gosset 'trio' perhaps proved most peoples favourites from the tasting.
Fiona's caviar blinis proved perhaps the biggest 'hit' of the evening (some 200+ were consumed!)
